About
Street Smart Kids offer a unique series of exciting programs, seminars and workshops for kids designed and presented by a big kid, Gordon Myers. Based on his own very real life experiences and some of the many other folks he has met along the way, Gordon has gathered very simple, yet critically important tools, to give all kids the confidence and self awareness that they will need to make better decisions in their lives.

Participants will be left feeling so much clearer about their own place on the planet. Gordon’s philosophy is not to lecture or to preach about what is right or wrong or how to be – but to share with kids, through real life stories, the opportunity to master a different way of seeing typical situations, thereby enabling actions and daily choices to have a far greater, positive impact on one’s precious life.

Gordon Myers

Gordon Myers, author, coach, proud father to a son and daughter, happily married for almost 20 years, arrived all alone in the USA as a young man with nothing more than a backpack and about $300.00 but with not a single phone number or contact to call. His experiences qualify him as a true survivor and so he brings a wealth of real life experience and compelling stories, rich in life lessons, to each one of his programs. Some of them are definitely humorous, some scary, many crazy and more than a few just plain dumb, but most worth sharing.

Born and raised in the epitome of dysfunctional family in Namibia, in the South West region of Africa, Gordon knew early in life that the odds were stacked against him and so he developed a strong curiosity for the better things in life, realizing very early in life that it was to be all up to him. He grew up in turmoil, in an environment that spelled trouble and despair, insecurity and chaos around virtually every corner.

The fact that he survived death or being incarcerated on far more than one occasion might be called luck but he was one of the few that realized that luck almost always runs out and this lends uniqueness to this opportunity. Gordon feels very fortunate today and is a living example of how survival skills and awareness gained along life’s less than friendly paths can be used in a very positive way. Gordon is still an ordinary guy living what he believes to be an enviable life despite the fact that he had to overcome some undeniably daunting challenges while growing up.

We are not talking about surviving the addiction to hard drugs, airplane crashes, horrific abuse, or some near fatal disease but most of the most common predicaments that untold numbers of our youth face today. The sad reality of divorce, verbal or physical abuse, insecurity, lack of supervision, violence and fear are all too familiar to Gordon and he routinely and passionately incorporates them into his programs. He knows only too well that there are vast numbers of kids with easily fixable problems but they may never get the help they need to live and enjoy somewhat normal lives.

Having lived through situations that are somewhat unbelievable, embarrassing and often just plain ignorant, Gordon has not only learned from them but is able to pass along these lessons to those who want to be better prepared than he was. In sharing his insight with kids and their parents he is hopeful that they will be able to avoid some of the pitfalls that lurk around us all, potentially destroying or severely impairing the one and only life we have.

Now, with more than 10 years of coaching youth sports programs and mentoring kids of all ages, Gordon can relate well to the issues that face today’s youth. He is keenly aware of the challenges caused by lack of self confidence and the wrath of peer pressure. He firmly believes that a little praise at the right time goes a long, long way.

Without sugar coating anything, Gordon can still make kids feel important and show them the respect that they deserve.

Gordon does not come from an Ivy League school with a string of degrees, a pinstriped suit and a righteous attitude. He is still pretty much just like anybody else, not unrealistically happy all the time, not untouchably successful but in a good place most of the time and very appreciative of it.

He has figured out how to balance life and is able to put things into a unique perspective that he wants to share with kids in such a way that they can actually “hear” it and enjoy some of the basic things while growing up that he unfortunately did not get to experience as a kid.

Without parental judgment, without adult nagging and lecturing and without “telling” but by just sharing his own real life, everyday adventures, Gordon will turn your world upside down but promises to put it back in a better place than he found it.
