About Street Smart Kids!

A StreetSmartKid will have had the opportunity to take some of the good and bad that adults have learnt throughout their lives and apply these lessons from those experiences to their own lives.

Many kids do not enjoy the benefits and advantages of having someone help them to make wise decisions as they mature. Learning on the go can often be rewarding but it often takes a severe toll on our youth, leading some of them down less desirable avenues. Sometimes by hearing the same old thing from a non-threatening source can make the difference.

Learning from peers can be more critical and effective than learning from teachers, parents, coaches, law enforcement personnel or any other authoritative figure.
"A simple word of good or bad advice from a third party can change the shape of a young life."
There are literally hundreds of areas that one can consider when trying to make better choices in life. The topics for discussion are endless and interestingly enough, the most basic lessons in dealing with life are often overlooked.

StreetSmartKids is a life awareness opportunity that will enable kids to grow up to be not only smarter but generally more content and appreciative of their own lives. They will discover their own potential. They will not be told what to think but rather offered ideas on how to think! This will help make them see certain things from different perspectives.

Many will realize that they already have the tools but just need a little direction on how to use them effectively. Programs are available for general assembly in all areas schools, temples, churches, youth organizations and are available tailored towards a specific focus, age group or a special interest group of any size.

A memorable and enjoyable time will be had by all and even if only one life is touched or just one future improved...it will be really worthwhile!

Who is Doing This and Why?

The founder, Gordon Myers, father to one daughter and one son, husband for 18 years, immigrant to the USA (at 25 years old) and a true survivor who has a story, in fact so many stories that it is tough to know where to begin.  Some of them are definitely humourous, scary, crazy, random and worth sharing. The uniqueness of this opportunity is that Gordon is a living example of how knowledge gained along the way can turn into pretty good. He is still an ordinary guy living what he believes to be a great life despite the fact that he had some undeniably tough challenges while growing up.

Born to a modest family in Namibia, in the South West region of Africa, he developed a strong curiosity for the better things that life had to offer, he grew up unspoilt but in an environment that spelled trouble and despair, insecurity and chaos around virtually every corner, one that led Gordon down many roads that have claimed many a mind, body and soul.

No, we are not talking about surviving addiction to hard drugs, airplane crashes, horrific abuse, or some near fatal disease but a large variety and dose of the many most common predicamants that our kids face today. The sad reality of divorce, sexual abuse, insecurity, non-supervision, survival, violence and fear are too close for comfort anyway you look at them.

Having lived through situations that are somewhat unbelievable, embarrassing and often just plain ignorant, Gordon has not only learnt from them but is ready to pass the lesson on to those who want to be better prepared.

Gordon wants to share his insight to help young adults today avoid some of the pitfalls that lurk around us, potentially destroying or severely impairing the one and only life we have.

Gordon would like to share the things that he and others have learned along the way, the incredible near misses he encountred while escaping the odds. You can follow in his old footsteps, take those chances or get ahead of the game, safer!

Gordon can relate well to pre-teens and teens as he has done in the past nine years of coaching youth sports, earning him great success and admiration.

He makes kids feel important and shows them the respect that they deserve. He is not going to sugar coat a thing and adults too will realize that he has learnt a few things about life from top to bottom and in between. Gordon does not come with an intimidating string of degrees, a pinstriped suit and a righteous attitude. He was one and still is one of the "everyday people" but with learned skills and a strong motivation towards steady and meaningful improvement. Wait until you hear the stories, this is a very real case of, "if he has done it then so should you"!

He is pretty much just like anybody, not unrealiatically happy all the time, not untouchably successful but in a good place and appreciative of it. He has figured out a balance well enough to know and share some of the secrets to making the most out of one's life.

No tricks, no gadgets, no crazy talk, nothing but old fashioned common sense. The key to a more meaningful and fulfilling life is having some StreetSmarts.

You can take a lifetime to learn it, pay the price or pick up a few good ideas from Gordon to get ahead while youth is on your side. Today is the easiest it will ever be since, getting older means it's going to be tougher.

Knowing that it is a very competitive world out there...why start with the burden of ignorance if you don't have to?

It's smart to get smart, get StreetSmart!
